Droga ku dojrzałości - motyw inicjacji w twórczości J.K. Rowling i Michaela Endego

Praca poświęcona jest motywom przemiany i dojrzewania w twórczości J.K. Rowling oraz Michaela Endego. Analiza oparta jest na cyklu powieściowym Harry Potter oraz powieści Niekończąca się historia. Zbadana jest konstrukcja głównych bohaterów wyżej wymienionych tekstów oraz wpływ fantastycznych światów na rozwój protagonistów. W pracy zestawiony jest proces przemiany Harry’ego i Bastiana oraz czynniki, które znacząco na to wpływają. Teza pracy zakłada, że alternatywne światy nie są miejscem ucieczki od problemów, ale stanowią przestrzeń rozwoju głównych bohaterów. W pracy wykorzystano metodę komparatystyczną, a także pojęcie powieści inicjacyjnej, teorię archetypów Carla Gustava Junga oraz teorię monomitu Josepha Campbella. Przeprowadzona analiza wykazała, że zarówno Harry Potter, jak i Niekończąca się historia wykazują cechy charakterystyczne dla powieści inicjacyjnej, jak również, że mimo dużej bliskości kulturowej i wielu podobieństw, te dwie powieści prezentują odmienne koncepcje etycznego wychowania człowieka.

This thesis explores the motifs of transformation and maturation in the works of J.K. Rowling and Michael Ende. The analysis is based on the Harry Potter series and the novel The Neverending Story. The study examines the construction of the main characters in those works and the influence of fantasy worlds on the protagonists’ development. It compares the processes of transformation undergone by Harry and Bastian, as well as the factors that significantly influence them. The thesis argues that alternative worlds are not places of escape from problems but rather spaces for the protagonists’ personal growth. The study employs the comparative method, the concept of the initiation novel, Carl Gustav Jung’s theory of archetypes, and Joseph Campbell’s theory of the monomyth. The analysis demonstrates that both Harry Potter and The Neverending Story exhibit characteristics of the initiation novel. It also shows that, despite their cultural proximity and numerous similarities, these two works present different concepts of the ethical formation of the individual.
