A key element is moving out of the family home, which constitutes a significant step in the process of achieving autonomy. The aim of the study was to analyze the course of the process by which young adults become independent and to reconstruct their subjective views on independence from their parents. The author described the process by which young adults become independent from their parents and characterized the concepts of their autonomy and independence. The study focused on a specific group of individuals in early adulthood—more specifically, those who decided to move out immediately after graduating from high school. This choice provides an interesting point of reference for the contemporary trend of young people taking longer to transition into adulthood. In the empirical section of the study, the author presented the research findings. She described the experiences young adults have in the process of becoming independent from their parents, as well as their subjective opinions. The study showed that the process of becoming independent is a significant element of the transition to adulthood for the participants. They actively strive for full independence.
