Poniższa praca “Rola idei w rozumieniu systemu międzynarodowego” zajmuje się tematyką występowania różnych idei, przez pryzmat których możemy lepiej zrozumieć czym jest system międzynarodowy, podejmując kwestie trudnych problemów metodologicznych występujących w naukach politycznych. Praca skupia się na zdefiniowaniu i scharakteryzowaniu kluczowych pojęć: idei, systemu międzynarodowego, struktury systemu międzynarodowego oraz przedstawieniu ich powiązań w studium przypadku, za jaki przyjęto system Unii Europejskiej. Kluczowym aspektem są czynniki kształtowania jednostkowej oraz współdzielonej tożsamości. Główne metody badawcze stanowią: analiza źródeł oraz sumienna metoda analizy i konstrukcji logicznej. Do napisania pracy wykorzystano głównie literaturę charakterystyczną dla dyscyplin stosunków międzynarodowych, politologii oraz socjologii. W przeprowadzonych analizach udowodniono brak występowania uniwersalnych idei oraz koncepcji systemowych, a także zdefiniowano podstawowe warunki, które muszą zostać spełnione, aby móc używać pojęcia system międzynarodowy. Istotnym czynnikiem jest schemat zachowań aktorów systemu, który w procesie podejmowania decyzji politycznych musi uwzględniać strukturę systemu międzynarodowego. Dodatkowo wykazano, że idea, która przetrwa w zbiorowej tożsamości może przekształcić ją we wspólnotę.

This paper “The role of ideas in understanding the international system” examines the topic of various ideas, by means of which we can better understand what is an international system. It addresses the challenges of methodological nature in the field of political science. The following work focuses on precisely defining and characterizing key terms: ideas, international system, international system structure, and presenting connections between them in a case study of the European Union. The key aspect of this analysis revolves around the factors of development of individual and collective identities. The main methods of research are: source analysis and carefully implemented method of analysis and logical construction. Literature used for the purpose of writing this paper consists of works specific to the fields of international relations, political science and sociology. The conducted research proved the absence of universality of ideas and conceptions of the system. The basic conditions required to apply the term “international system” were defined. A crucial condition that needs to be met is the schematic pattern of behaviour of international system actors, which has to take into consideration the entire structure of the international system before taking action. Additionally, it was proven that the idea, which persists inside of shared identity, can create the basis of a new social community.
