This paper addresses the ritual aspect of Władysław Hasior's performances and their role as a structural and functional heir to ancient rites. At the beginning, theoretical concepts of performance and ritual were presented in the approach of Erving Goffman, Victor Turner, Catherine Bell, and Erika Fischer-Lichte. Next, based on these concepts, two performances by Władysław Hasior were analyzed and described: Procession of Banners in Łącko, as an example of a secular mystery play based on the matrix of a religious procession, and Scandinavian Chariot in Södertälje, as an example of a sculpture animated by fire and building a new local tradition, as well as the specifics of the artist's workshop based on assemblage and the use of elements.
