This master’s thesis analyses digital authoritarianism as a method of political social engineering. The main case study is the Republic of Belarus after the 2020 presidential election, when Belarusian authorities used digital tools to suppress mass protests, control information, and strengthen surveillance over citizens. The aim of the thesis is to show that digital authoritarianism is not merely a technical supplement to traditional repression, but may function as an autonomous model of political power. The analysis focuses on internet shutdowns, electronic surveillance, disinformation, psychological operations, and transnational repression targeting political emigrants. The Belarusian case is also compared with the Russian and Chinese models. The thesis concludes that Belarus represents an important example of the integration of digital technologies with an authoritarian state apparatus. This case makes it possible to better understand the contemporary transformation of authoritarianism and the threats it poses to liberal democracies.
