Desentrañando la distopía en Cadáver exquisito: reflexiones desde los animal studies, el ecofeminismo y el marxismo

Tematem niniejszej pracy jest analiza współczesnej dystopijnej powieści argentyńskiej Cadáver exquisito, autorstwa Agustiny Bazterriki, przedstawiającej społeczeństwo kanibalistyczne, w którym zwierzęta zostają wyeliminowane, a hodowla ludzi na mięso zostaje zalegalizowana. Główną osią interpretacyjną jest zbadanie logiki eksploatacji natury przez człowieka, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem roli mięsa jako produktu o istotnym znaczeniu w kulturze zachodniej. Logika ta prowadzi do przemysłowej eksploatacji ciał czujących istot, wobec czego celem pracy jest zbadanie w jaki sposób powieść krytykuje hierarchiczne, oparte na dominacji relacje między ludźmi oraz między ludźmi, a zwierzętami. W pracy wykorzystano trzy główne perspektywy teoretyczne. Animal studies (Ładyga y Włodarczyk 2015) i dekonstrukcja (Derrida 2006) pozwalają podważyć granicę między tym, co uważa się za “ludzkie”, a tym, co “zwierzęce”. Ukazanie zatarcia tej granicy w powieści jest kluczowe dla zrozumienia mechanizmów eksploatacji. Z kolei perspektywa ekofeministyczna (Adams 1990, Puleo 2011) podkreśla rolę białka zwierzęcego w kulturowym budowaniu męskości, w której konsumpcja mięsa jest związana z dominacją, kontrolą i siłą, co wzmacnia hierarchie opresji zarówno wobec zwierząt, jak i innych ludzi, zwłaszcza kobiet. W końcu, poprzez analizę marksistowską (Marx 1867, 1932), praca ukazuje kapitalizm jako ostateczny system eksploatacji Innego, w którym zarówno zwierzęta, jak i ludzie są zredukowani do towarów.

The subject of this paper is an analysis of the contemporary Argentine dystopian novel Cadáver exquisito by Agustina Bazterrica, which depicts a cannibalistic society in which animals are eliminated and human breeding for meat is legalized. The main interpretative axis is to examine the logic of human exploitation of nature, with particular emphasis on the role of meat as a product of vital importance in Western culture. This logic leads to the industrial exploitation of the bodies of sentient beings, so the purpose of this paper is to examine how the novel critiques the hierarchical, dominance-based relationships among humans and between humans and animals. The paper is grounded in three main theoretical perspectives. Animal studies (Ładyga y Włodarczyk 2015) and deconstruction (Derrida 2006) allow us to question the boundary between what is considered human and what is animal. Showing the blurring of this distinction in the novel is crucial to understanding the mechanisms of exploitation. The ecofeminist perspective (Adams 1990, Puleo 2011), on the other hand, highlights the role of animal protein in the cultural construction of masculinity, in which meat consumption is associated with dominance, control, and power, reinforcing hierarchies of oppression against both animals and other humans, especially women. Finally, through Marxist analysis (Marx 1867, 1932), the paper portrays capitalism as the ultimate system of exploitation of the Other, in which both animals and humans are reduced to commodities.

La presente tesis analiza la novela distópica argentina, Cadáver exquisito, de Agustina Bazterrica, que describe una sociedad caníbal en la que se eliminan los animales y se legaliza la cría humana para la carne. El eje interpretativo principal consiste en examinar la lógica de la explotación de la naturaleza por parte del ser humano, con especial atención al papel de la carne como producto de vital importancia en la cultura occidental. Como esta lógica implica la explotación industrial de los cuerpos de seres sintientes, en la tesis se explora cómo la novela critica las relaciones jerárquicas, basadas en la dominación, entre seres humanos y entre estos y los animales. La investigación se basa en tres perspectivas teóricas principales. Los animal studies ( Ładyga y Włodarczyk, 2015) y la deconstrucción (Derrida, 2006) nos permiten cuestionar la frontera entre lo que se considera humano y animal. Mostrar la difuminación de esta frontera en la novela es crucial para entender los mecanismos de explotación. A su vez, la perspectiva ecofeminista (Adams, 1990; Puleo, 2011) enfatiza el papel de la proteína animal en la construcción cultural de la masculinidad, en la que el consumo de carne se asocia con la dominación, el control y el poder, reforzando jerarquías de opresión tanto contra los animales como contra otros seres humanos, especialmente las mujeres. Por último, mediante un análisis marxista (Marx, 1867, 1932), la tesis expone el capitalismo como cierta culminación del sistema de explotación del Otro, en el que tanto animales como humanos son reducidos a mercancías.
