The role of languages in intercultural communication

dc.abstract.enIntercultural communication is an everyday fact in a globalizing era, as people move from one country to another for tourism, work, or a better life and technology makes virtual meetings possible for people from different countries. The language used plays a role in the success of failure of communication in both interpersonal and international contexts. The role played by international languages such as English, Spanish, and international planned languages such as Esperanto in communication is the topic of the first volume in the publication series “Cross-linguistic and Cross-cultural Studies” of the Institute of Ethnolinguistics of AMU. The subject is presented from theoretical and practical viewpoints and in terms of education, language policy as well as sign languages thanks to the contributions of 20 specialists from seven countries.
dc.abstract.plW zglobalizowanym świecie komunikacja międzykulturowa to codzienność; ludzie przenoszą się bowiem z jednego kraju do drugiego w celach zawodowych, turystycznych czy dla lepszego życia a technologia umożliwia już wirtualne spotkania ludzi z różnych krajów. Język używany przez interlokutorów odgrywa rolę w (nie)powodzeniu komunikacji, czy to w kontekście interpersonalnym, czy międzynarodowym. Rola odgrywana przez języki międzynarodowe, takie jak angielski czy hiszpański oraz międzynarodowe języki planowe jak np. esperanto, jest tematem pierwszego tomu serii wydawniczej Instytutu Etnolingwistyki UAM „Cross-linguistic and Cross-cultural Studies”. Temat zaprezentowany został przez 20 specjalistów z 7 krajów z punktu widzenia teoretycznego oraz praktycznego; poruszone zostały także aspekty polityki językowej oraz nauczania; swoje miejsce otrzymały również języki migowe.
