| dc.abstract.en | This thesis delves into the intricate dynamics of diasporas and their impact on the diplomatic relations between Poland and South Korea, organized into three comprehensive sections. In the initial section, a model analysis explores the potential effects of the diaspora on countries, aligning these insights with established international relations theories, particularly liberalism and constructivism. This theoretical foundation aims to lend legitimacy to the central query of the thesis, facilitating the creation of a model specific to the South Korean diaspora in Poland. The second section highlights the existing relations between Poland and South Korea, providing a contextual background for their diplomatic ties and showcasing instances of collaboration. Building upon this foundation, the third section conducts a detailed analysis to assess whether the established relationships have been influenced by the diaspora. Additionally, an exploration of possible future relationships allows for more depth to the argument as well as deeper understanding of the relationship between South Korea and Poland The theoretical model of this study draws heavily from the works of Yossi Shain, a prominent expert in diaspora studies. A multitude of publications, journals, and diverse sources are utilized to ensure the accuracy and credibility of the information presented. By adopting a multifaceted approach, this thesis aims to transcend a one-dimensional perspective, offering a more extensive understanding of the complex interactions shaping the relations between Poland and South Korea. The findings of the thesis demonstrate that the South Korean diaspora in Poland has clearly influenced the hostland to some extent, evident in the growth of cultural awareness and the establishment of South Korean-related businesses, notably in cities such as Wroclaw. The escalating demand for Korean elements is at an unprecedented high and is expected to continue growing due to the tangible presence of the diaspora. Importantly, the thesis argues that South Korea's overarching foreign policy goal to increase interest in the country is another credible reason as to why the specific changes mentioned have occurred, though if not for the diaspora itself, they would not take place in a manner so evident and rapid. |
