Women’s Book Patronage in Medieval Poland

Uproszczony widok
Women’s Book Patronage is a phenomenon occurring in Poland from the eleventh century, although in many cases the association of specific women, usually rulers’ consorts, with particular codices is hypothetical. Apart from the court milieu, books were also commissioned by and for female monasteries. For the late Middle Ages we also have evidence of the patronage of aristocratic and bourgeois women. There are also examples from this period of the ordering of vernacular books by and for women.
