A Study of Evaluative Devices in the Discourse of Selected English and Polish Internet Reviews of Rebecca Yarros' Fourth Wing

dc.abstract.enThe aim of this thesis is to analyse the evaluative devices used by the community of booklovers on the online platform Goodreads. The analysis of Polish and English book reviews is based on selected evaluative devices and the appraisal model proposed by J.R. Martin and P.R.R. White. The theoretical part of the work comprises information on discourse, discourse analysis, expressive markers and the appraisal model. The analytical part presents and analyses the evaluative devices found in Polish and English book reviews based on the categories discussed in the theoretical part of the work. Differences in the use of evaluative devices as a linguistic tool by Polish and English readers were also distinguished.
dc.abstract.plCelem niniejszej pracy jest analiza środków wartościowania używanych przez społeczność miłośników książek na internetowej platformie Goodreads. Analiza polskich i angielskich recenzji książki jest oparta na poszczególnych środkach wartościowania oraz modelu Oceny zaproponowanym przez J.R. Martina oraz P.R.R. White’a. W części teoretycznej pracy przedstawiono informacje dotyczące dyskursu, analizy dyskursu, środków wartościowania oraz modelu Oceny. W części analitycznej przedstawiono oraz przeanalizowano środki wartościujące występujące w polskich i angielskich recenzjach książki na podstawie kategorii omówionych w części teoretycznej pracy. Wyodrębniono także różnice w stosowaniu środków wartościujących jako narzędzia lingwistycznego przez polskich oraz angielskich czytelników.
