Заметка o пансофии Яна Амоса Коменского

The article presents a comparison of two concepts represented in John Comenius’ scientific thought by two notions: that of “Pansophism” and “Unum necessarium”, i.e. “the one thing necessary” and “the one thing is needed”. In case of “Pansophism” the universal knowledge about the world and man is meant, while in case of “Unum necessarium” knowledge about only one thing needful which is faith preached by Jesus (Luke 10: 42) is meant. These concepts may be contrasted with the ideologies of Renaissance (Pansophism as “all-knowing”) and Baroque (“the one necessary” / ”the one is needed”, i.e. knowing only of one which is God/Jesus). In Russian literature they appear, for example, in Nikolay Strakhov’s The World as a Whole (Мир как целое, 1872) and in Leo Tolstoy’s treaty from 1905 entitled The One Thing Necessary (Единое на потребу).
