Lingwistyka a terminologia – konflikt czy symbioza? Kilka uwag w sprawie nowych perspektyw poznawczych dotyczących metodologii obu dyscyplin

dc.abstract.enDifferences concerning the objects of study in linguistics and terminology are not typically regarded as subject to dispute. The reasoning used for differentiating between linguistics and terminology is based not so much on the respective objects of study in the strict sense, but rather on the historic developments of either of the disciplines. Can such a line of reasoning be considered as sufficiently justified? The real differences are noticeable merely in the aspect of the methods employed, the latter resulting mainly from the objectives set by the representatives of linguistics and terminology. We observe a striking deficit of careful diagnosis of the said differences, i.e. a diagnosis resulting from the analyses of concrete cases. The results of case studies could put into question the postulates of mutual independence between linguistics and terminology, while allowing the authors to advance the hypothesis of a uniform methodology for the disciplines in question. The most recent results and reflections on the subject render valid the claim that the methodologies behind these two disciplines, sometimes considered as separate, ought to be reduced to a common denominator. The fields of research differ merely in the aspect of analytical methods and schemes, a result of workloads signified by the name of each discipline. The results of our analyses bear out the hypothesis of a uniform methodology, which could and ought to be employed in both linguistics and terminology.
