An overview of linguistic relativity from a cognitive linguistics perspective - contemporary studies on time, space and grammatical gender

dc.abstract.enThis thesis examines Linguistic Relativity (LR) through the lens of contemporary studies and arguments presented in linguistic literature. It explores how scholars argue about the relationship between thought and language. I specifically focus on the topics of space, time and grammatical gender. In addition, a sample study was conducted to investigate the relationship between grammatical gender and cognition. It concluded that grammatical gender is not necessarily a significant factor affecting how speakers conceptualize objects. Moreover, this thesis contributes to the current debate on LR by highlighting the variety of the arguments present in contemporary literature.
dc.abstract.plNiniejsza praca ma na celu zbadanie relatiwizmu językowego w oparciu o współczesną literaturę językoznawczą. Analizuje, jak uczeni dyskutują na temat związku między myśleniem a językiem. W pracy skupiam się w szczególności na tematach przestrzeni, czasu i rodzaju gramatycznego. W ramach pracy przeprowadzono badanie, aby zbadać związek między rodzajem gramatycznym a poznaniem. Badanie wykazało, że rodzaj gramatyczny niekoniecznie jest istotnym czynnikiem wpływającym na sposób, w jaki użytkownicy języka konceptualizują przedmioty. Ponadto, praca ta wnosi wkład do bieżącej debaty na temat LR, podkreślając różnorodność argumentów pojawiających się w literaturze.
