An Experimental Study on the Interplay of Cultural-Frame Switching, Identity, and Personal Values Among Norwegian-Turkish Bicultural Individuals

dc.abstract.enThis thesis explores the effects of cultural frame-switching on Schwartz's basic universal values in a sample of Norwegian-Turkish bicultural individuals. The study compares two different operationalizations of dual identity, and examines how the strength of ethnic, national, and dual identity impacts the effect of the frame-switch. Results show a pattern of significant results for some cultural values, particularly for Self-Transcendence and Conservation, depending on both cultural frames and the strength of identity measures. Evidence was found for important differences between the two measurement approaches to dual identity, with the direct assessment of dual identity showing distinct associations with cultural values compared to the combined sum-of-its-parts approach.
dc.abstract.plNiniejsza praca naukowa bada wpływ przełączania ram kulturowych na podstawowe uniwersalne wartości Schwartza w grupie dwukulturowych, norwesko-tureckich osób. Badanie porównuje dwie różne operacjonalizacje podwójnej tożsamości i sprawdza jak siła tożsamości etnicznej, narodowej i podwójnej wpływa na efekt przełączania ram. Wyniki pokazują znaczące wartości dla niektórych wartości kulturowych, takich jak przekraczanie ja i zachowawczość, w zależności zarówno od ram kulturowych, jak i siły miar tożsamości. Ponadto, znaleziono istotne różnice pomiędzy dwoma różnymi podejściami do pomiaru podwójnej tożsamości, przy czym jej bezpośrednia ocena ukazała wyraźny związek z wartościami kulturowymi w porównaniu do podejścia łączącego sumy części.
