Abstrakt (EN)
For historians of Old Polish literature, Piotr Chmielowski, who began his reflection on literature from the Middle Ages and the Baroque during his studies at the Main School in Warsaw, remains a critical predecessor – first and foremost the interpreter of Jan Kochanowski’s ”Pieśń świętojańska o Sobótce” and its publisher in the monumental edition of ”Dzieła wszystkie” from 1884, as well as a historiographer of Old Polish drama, a researcher of the works of Wacław Potocki and Wespazjan Kochowski. Chmielowski’s role in the reception of Old Polish in the 19th century consists of developing historical and literary syntheses and athologies. In the 19th century, the syntheses of the history of literature most clearly revealed the historical and scholarly awareness of researchers and readers – realising pedagogical and educational goals.
