dc.abstract.enThe article presents Diary by Maria Szetkiewicz, great love of Henryk Sienkiewicz and his first wife. Diary was donated to the National Museum in Kielce by the writer’s granddaughter – Maria Korniłowicz – for the sake of remembrance about his grandfather and his family. Diary was written when Maria was 15 to 19 years old and includes her intimate thoughts, dreams, hesitations and opinions about family and conditions which she lived in. Thanks to the analysis of the diary we get to know her character better, we can imagine why Sienkiewicz could have fallen in love with her.
