The Translation of Proper Names and Cultural References in the Polish Dubbed Version of the Animated Film Zootopia

dc.abstract.enThe aim of this bachelor's thesis is to determine the preferred translation strategy employed by dubbing creators when translating proper names and cultural references in animated films. The animated film Zootopia was used as the research material. The paper consists of two parts. The first part is theoretical and presents the issues of dubbing, such as the definition, stages of dubbing production, and its limitations; definitions and types of proper names and cultural references; strategies of foreignization and domestication according to different translation theorists; and translation techniques, along with an indication of whether they are used to domesticate or foreignize the text. The second part is an analysis of proper names and cultural references in the Polish dubbing of the film Zootopia. These elements were analysed in terms of what techniques were used to translate them and what strategy these techniques represent. The analysis proved that domestication is the dominant strategy.
dc.abstract.plCelem niniejszej pracy licencjackiej jest ustalenie preferowanej przez twórców dubbingu strategii tłumaczeniowej wykorzystywanej przy tłumaczeniu nazw własnych i odniesień kulturowych w filmach animowanych. Jako materiał badawczy posłużył film animowany ,,Zwierzogród”. Praca składa się z dwóch części. Pierwsza część ma charakter teoretyczny i przedstawia zagadnienia dubbingu, takie jak definicja, etapy produkcji dubbingu i jego ograniczenia, definicje i rodzaje nazw własnych i odniesień kulturowych, strategie egzotyzacji i udomowienia według różnych teoretyków przekładu, oraz techniki tłumaczeniowe, wraz ze wskazaniem, czy są używane w celu udomowienia, czy egzotyzacji tekstu. Druga część stanowi analizę nazw własnych i odniesień kulturowych w polskim dubbingu filmu ,,Zwierzogród”. Elementy te zostały przeanalizowane pod kątem tego, jakie techniki zostały zastosowane do ich przetłumaczenia i jaką strategię te techniki reprezentują. Analiza dowiodła, że dominującą strategią jest udomowienie.
