dc.abstract.enSubject thesis: 'The image of the city and its inhabitants in the face of the cataclysm of World War II. Gdansk in Stefan Chwin's Hanemann' is an attempt to show the metamorphosis of Danzig from an area dominated by German culture into a typically Polish one, and to present the fate of the novel's protagonists, taking into account the role played in this process by the armed conflict and its aftermath. There are presented: historical background of the events mentioned in this masterpiece, along with an analysis of the situation of the civilians, the meaning of the judgements of the Great History and the metaphor of the Last Judgement. The eschatological dimension of the book by the Gdansk writer is emphasised by the displacement of representatives of the German community, after the end of hostilities and the transience of the world created by them. In addition, the following work shows the relationship between Poles and Germans after 1945, the function of the legacy of the former inhabitants of the city, the meaning of things and death as a form of dissent from the imposed reality. The impact of history on social relations is also analysed, focusing on the relations prevailing in Gdansk between the different nations living there, and the phenomenon of trauma in the characters portrayed in the work is explored. All of these themes influence the perception of the Tricity and its inhabitants as a conglomerate of various traditions and a place of encounter with alienness, of which the title character of the book, Hanemann, is a representative.
dc.abstract.plNiniejsza praca dyplomowa pt. „Obraz miasta i jego mieszkańców wobec kataklizmu II wojny światowej. Gdańsk w Hanemannie Stefana Chwina” stanowi próbę ukazania metamorfozy Danzig z terenu zdominowanego przez kulturę niemiecką w obszar typowo polski oraz przedstawienia losów bohaterów danej powieści, biorąc pod uwagę rolę, jaką w tym procesie odegrał konflikt zbrojny i jego następstwa. Zaprezentowane jest podłoże historyczne poruszonych w utworze wydarzeń, czemu towarzyszy analiza sytuacji cywili, znaczenia wyroków Wielkiej Historii i metafory Sądu Ostatecznego. Eschatologiczny wymiar książki gdańskiego pisarza podkreślony został poprzez dokonywane po zakończeniu działań wojennych wysiedlenia przedstawicieli niemieckiej społeczności i przemijalność kreowanego przez nich świata. Ponadto w poniższej pracy wskazane zostały zależności występujące między Polakami i Niemcami po 1945 r., funkcja spuścizny dawnych mieszkańców miasta, znaczenie rzeczy oraz śmierci jako formy niezgody na narzuconą rzeczywistość. Przeanalizowany został również wpływ historii na relacje społeczne, który koncentruje się na stosunkach panujących w Gdańsku między zamieszkującymi go różnymi narodami, a także zbadane zostało zjawisko występowania traumy u postaci ukazanych w dziele. Całokształt poruszonych tematów wpływa na postrzeganie Trójmiasta i jego mieszkańców jako konglomeratu różnych tradycji oraz miejsca stykania się z obcością, której przedstawicielem jest tytułowy bohater książki – Hanemann.
