Renewable Energy Sources as a Tool for Energy Transition in Ukraine

dc.abstract.enThe thesis aims to analyze the potential of renewable energy sources (RES) in Ukraine from the energy transition perspective. These fossil fuel alternatives are commonly used tools for the world’s “green” transformation, and the study provides an in-depth examination of their integration into the existing socio-economic system. While focusing on sustainability and climate resilience, it explores Ukraine’s energy market, its resource potential and legislative framework, comparing the country’s capabilities with the needs of the European Union. The work introduces the concept of further cooperation between Europe and Ukraine to ensure a stable electricity market and uphold peace and justice, aligning with the EU's founding principles and key policies. A central focus of the research is the war’s impact on Ukraine's energy sector and its role in reshaping international economic models. The thesis presents how the state manages to develop its RE market and how this adaptive approach can support Europe’s net-zero ambitions in the upcoming years. At the same time, the post-war reconstruction uncovers a pathway for Ukraine to emerge as a “green” energy leader in Europe. Overall, this work underscores the transformative potential of renewable energy for Ukraine, highlighting its capacity to promote sustainability, resilience, and stronger integration with the European energy framework.
