Interactions of Villanelle, key protagonist in the TV series Killing Eve, from the perspective of Politeness Theory

dc.abstract.enThe aim of this paper is to analyze interactions of Villanelle, one of the main protagonists of the TV series Killing Eve, from the perspective of the politeness theory and to observe in the first episodes of the second season of the series acts that threaten ‘face’ as understood by Brown and Levinson. This paper consists of three chapters, an introduction and conclusions. The introduction presents the aim of the paper and the content of each of the chapters. The first chapter is a theoretical chapter and presents politeness theory presented by Brown and Levinson, explains the concepts of face, negative and positive politeness and discusses Face Threatening Acts. The second chapter presents the methodology used in the writing of the paper, as well as the summary of the plot of the second season of the TV series Killing Eve, while in the third chapter a transcription and an analysis of chosen interactions of Villanelle from the first five episodes of the second season of the TV series Killing Eve is conducted. The conclusions contain a summary of the number of face threatened and the number of strategies conducted by given characters. The aim of the paper has been achieved – a satisfactory amount of interactions consisting of interesting Face Threatening Acts has been found and analyzed.
dc.abstract.plCelem tej pracy jest analiza interakcji Villanelle, jednej z głównych bohaterek serialu telewizyjnego Killing Eve (pol. Obsesja Eve), z perspektywy teorii grzeczności oraz zaobserwowanie w początkowych odcinkach drugiego sezonu tego serialu aktów zagrożenia twarzy w zrozumieniu Brown i Levinsona. Praca ta składa się z trzech rozdziałów oraz wstępu i wniosków. Wprowadzenie przedstawia cel pracy oraz zawartość każdego z rozdziałów. Pierwszy rozdział jest rozdziałem teoretycznym i przedstawia teorię grzeczności opisaną przez Brown i Levinsona, wyjaśnia pojęcia twarzy, negatywnej i pozytywnej grzeczności oraz omawia czynności szkodzące twarzy. Drugi rozdział przedstawia metodologię użytą podczas pisania pracy oraz streszczenie fabuły drugiego sezonu serialu telewizyjnego Obsesja Eve, zaś w trzecim rozdziale przeprowadzona jest transkrypcja oraz analiza wybranych interakcji Villanelle z pierwszych pięciu odcinków drugiego sezonu serialu telewizyjnego Obsesja Eve. Wnioski zawierają podsumowanie liczby zagrożonych twarzy oraz ilości strategii zagrażających twarzy zastosowanych przez dane postacie. Cel pracy został osiągnięty – znaleziono satysfakcjonującą liczbę interakcji zawierających interesujące czynności szkodzące twarzy oraz przeanalizowano je.
