Prosodic features in the speech of British football commentators

dc.abstract.enThe thesis provides the information about prosodic features – voice pitch and loudness - and the analysis of their changes in the speech of the British football commentators during intense, emotional moments of the matches. The theoretical part of the thesis presents the data on the correlation of emotive aspect and prosodic features; also information about sports discourse and its genre – sports commentary – is discussed. The practical part of the study is devoted to the description of the audiovisual analysis of the British commentators’ voice pitch and loudness in three football matches, accomplished via Praat program. The findings of the study confirm the interdependence of modifications in the mentioned prosodic parameters and actions happening on the football field, which also signalise the emotional intensity of commentators.
dc.abstract.plNiniejsza praca porusza tematykę prozodycznych cech języka (wysokości głosu oraz głośności), a także koncentruje się na analizie ich zmian w mowie brytyjskich komentatorów piłki nożnej podczas kluczowych, emocjonujących momentów meczów. Część teoretyczna pracy przedstawia informacje dotyczące korelacji aspektu emocjonalnego oraz cech prozodycznych. Opisane zostały także podstawowe pojęcia dyskursu sportowego i jego gatunku – komentarza sportowego. Część praktyczna pracy skupia się na opisie audiowizualnej analizy boiska oraz natężenia głosu brytyjskich komentatorów w trzech meczach piłkarskich, dokonanej za pośrednictwem programu Praat. Wyniki badania potwierdzają współzależność modyfikacji parametrów prozodycznych oraz sytuacji zachodzących na boisku piłkarskim. Wspomniane modyfikacje parametrów prozodycznych sygnalizują również stopień zaangażowania emocjonalnego komentatorów.
