Germany's policy toward non-EU immigration after 2015

dc.abstract.enThroughout human history, movements of people (migration) have presented social, economic, and cultural challenges. Wars, natural disasters, political pressures, and economic concerns are the main factors causing migration. The purpose of the following study is to examine Germany’s immigration policy towards non-EU immigrants in the aftermath of the 2015 crisis, which saw an unprecedented influx of refugees and migrants into Europe. The primary problem under investigation is how Germany’s policy evolved in response to the crisis, addressing the social and economic issues that arose, and the impact on both national and EU-level regulations. The study is divided into three chapters and is organised around hypotheses. The first chapter examines general approaches to migration in international law and offers a theoretical framework for additional investigation. The in the second chapter, influence of the 2015 immigration crisis on German policy is further discussed, which also highlights the changes and adjustments made both during and after the crisis. In the third chapter, Germany's immigration strategy in the wake of the 2015 refugee crisis is compared to the approaches used by other EU nations dealing with comparable migration pressures. This identifies differences in the effectiveness of these strategies and provides insights into lessons learned from Germany’s approach, including its successes and areas for improvement. The chapter concludes with actionable recommendations for policymakers, focusing on enhanced EU cooperation, sustainable migration policies, and addressing long-term integration challenges. In conclusion, the goal of this thesis is to present a thorough and impartial analysis of Germany's immigration policies, especially those implemented after 2015, in the larger framework of the EU. This study aims to advance knowledge of the complexities involved in migration management by looking at a variety of factors and outcomes related to these policies. It is set up to impartially assess how humanitarian, economic, and security factors intersect, promoting a nuanced viewpoint on this important matter.
