Dendrochronologia o datowaniu wczesnośredniowiecznego grodziska w Węgielsztynie, gm. Węgorzewo

dc.abstract.enThe excavation works in 2016 of the stronghold in Węgielsztyn discovered exceptionally well-preserved remains of a burned rampart and a construction interpreted as a relic of a tower. Both structures represented the youngest phase of exploitation of the stronghold. Their state of preservation enabled dendrochronological dating of the samples obtained from charred wooden elements. 58 samples were selected for analysis. Anatomical identification was possible for 41 samples and indicated that the majority of them came from oak (21 pieces) and ash (22 pieces). Apart from these species, other types of wood were also identified: elm (9 pieces), as well as hornbeam and alder (3 pieces each). Two mean curves were juxtaposed for the oak wood: WGL_AA1 (789–977 AD) and WGL_AA2 (881– 1037 AD), which suggest the 1040s as the time when the fortifications were erected. The most significant result of the conducted investigation is construction of relatively long mean curves for both oak and ash wood, which has a positive impact on perspectives of future research into early medieval Prussia.
dc.abstract.plPodczas badań wykopaliskowych grodziska w Węgielsztynie, w gm. Węgorzewo odkryto dobrze zachowane relikty spalonego wału i konstrukcji interpretowanej jako pozostałość wieży. Stan zachowania drewna umożliwił wykonanie analizy dendrochronologicznej, co w rezultacie pozwoliło na uzyskanie pierwszych dla ziem pruskich dat dendrochronologicznych dla wczesnośredniowiecznego obiektu obronnego. Identyfikacja anatomiczna 41 próbek drewna wykazała, że większość reprezentuje drewno dębowe i jesionowe. Dla drewna dębowego zestawiono dwie krzywe średnie: WGL_AA1 (789-977 AD) i WGL_AA2 (881-1037 AD) wskazujące na lata 40. XI w. jako czas budowy umocnień.
