Ways in which depictions of Anne Boleyn in 20th and 21st-century British fiction reflect changing attitudes to the role of women and emerging feminist social theory

The thesis examines the ways in which novels about Anne Boleyn published predominantly by British authors between 1900 and 2010 reflect the ideas of the three contemporary waves of feminism. The introductory chapter provides a framework for the later chapters by discussing Anne Boleyn in historiography. The next three chapters discuss the relevant areas of interest of each wave of feminism in the context of novels published in the corresponding period.
