| dc.abstract.en | European societies are secularized, religion becomes a private matter, the number of religiously indifferent people increases, so often the religious aspect is omitted in studies on the identity of individuals and societies. In the case of Polish Tatars, however, we do not only deal with an ethnic or cultural minority, but also (and perhaps above all) with a religious minority. The religious identity of the Tatars as a religious minority in Poland is particularly important for preserving the separateness of this group. Currently, the formation of the religious identity of both groups and individuals occurs in multicultural and multi-religious societies - the group does not have effective instruments of coercion of continuity with the original identity acquired as a result of birth; freedom of choice prevails, guaranteed also legally. Therefore, the religious identity of the Tartars should be much more carefully nurtured and affirmed, because, as research shows, a deeper religious identity results in a much stronger and more permanent identity of a given individual, characterizing his/her belonging to a given group. |
