“Step by Step.” The Translation and Interpretation of Ballroom Dance Expressions

dc.abstract.enThis thesis aims to introduce ballroom dancing and challenges for translators who interpret specific books on ballroom dancing technique. The first chapter aims to explore the concept of dancing, including its history and evolution over the years. The most significant competition will be introduced, as well as ballroom dancing image showed in films, theater plays, books and newspapers. The second chapter is devoted to the examination of the specific literature which include the technique and terminology. The final chapter will present difficulties which may be encountered by the translators while interpreting specific names of the ballroom dancing figures.
dc.abstract.plNiniejsza praca magisterska ma na celu przedstawienie oraz przybliżenie obrazu tańca towarzyskiego oraz trudności, jakie stają na drodze tłumaczom, którzy podejmują się przekładu książek opisujących technikę tańca towarzyskiego. Pierwszy rozdział opisuje ideę tańca, przedstawia historię oraz ewolucję poszczególnych stylów na przestrzeni lat. Zawarte w nim informacje nawiązują również do najważniejszego turnieju tanecznego oraz prezentuje obraz tańca towarzyskiego przedstawiony w filmach, sztukach teatralnych, książkach i gazetach. Kolejny rozdział poświęcony jest analizie książek, które opisują technikę tańca towarzyskiego i zawierają specyficzną terminologię. Ostatni rozdział będzie opisywał trudności, jakie mogą spotkać tłumaczy podczas przekładu poszczególnych nazw figur tanecznych.
