The True Anne and Her Real World in the Newest Polish Rendition of Anne of Green Gables (1908): A Case Study of Anne z Zielonych Szczytów (2022) by Anna Bańkowska

dc.abstract.enThis master’s thesis is devoted to the latest Polish translation of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s novel Anne of Green Gables produced by Anna Bańkowska: Anne z Zielonych Szczytów (2022). The latest Polish translation is examined in comparison to the oldest Polish translation: Ania z Zielonego Wzgórza by Rozalia Bernsteinowa (1911). The work examines proper names, toponyms and other lexical elements comparatively in Bernsteinowa’s canonical translation and Bańkowska’s polemical translation. The work contains a list of all foregoing translations of the original text and asks several research questions such as those relating to the changes in translation norms observed in the gap of over a hundred years in both translations, and the used translation strategies such as domestication, exoticization, and omission. The theoretical chapter discusses linguistic, literary and cultural definitions of the concept of translation by researchers such as Catford, Legeżyńska and Lefevere. Then the concepts of Translation Studies, formal and dynamic equivalence, and translability are explained. The work ends with the Appendix and the Conclusions from the comparative analysis of the translations produced by Bernsteinowa and Bańkowska.
dc.abstract.plNiniejsza praca magisterska poświęcona jest najnowszemu polskiemu tłumaczeniu powieści Lucy Maud Montgomery pt. Anne of Green Gables autorstwa Anny Bańkowskiej pt. Anne z Zielonych Szczytów (2022). Badanie najnowszego polskiego tłumaczenia odbywa się porównawczo wobec najstarszego polskiego tłumaczenia pt. Ania z Zielonego Wzgórza autorstwa Rozalii Bernsteinowej (1911). W pracy badane są nazwy własne, toponimy i inne elementy leksykalne porównawczo w przekładzie kanonicznym Bernsteinowej i przeglądzie polemicznym Bańkowskiej. Praca zawiera spis wszystkich dotychczasowych tłumaczeń oraz stawia szereg pytań badawczych takich jak: zmiana norm tłumaczeniowych obserwowana na przełomie stu lat w obu tłumaczeniach, stosowane strategie tłumaczeniowe takie jak udomowienie, egzotyzacja, pominięcie. W rozdziale teoretyczna omówione zostały definicje językowe, literaturoznawcze, kulturowe pojęcia „translation” autorstwa takich badaczy jak: Catford, Legeżyńska i Lefevere. Następnie wyjaśnione zostały pojęcia „Translation Studies”, ekwiwalencja formalna i dynamiczna, „translability” (przekładalność). Praca zakończona jest Załącznikiem oraz Wnioskami z przeprowadzonych badań porównawczych przekładów autorstwa Bernsteinowej i Bańkowskiej.
