Associations between mindfulness and sexual dysfunctions, symptoms of depression and anxiety among women from the perspective of the HiTOP hierarchical model of psychopathology

dc.abstract.enThe current study aimed to assess the applicability of the Hierarchical Taxonomy of Psychopathology (HiTOP) model for diagnosing sexual problems among women. The sample comprised native Polish women aged 18 to 61 (N = 224). Research was conducted in the form of an online survey. Administered questionnaires included: the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), the Generalized Anxiety Disorder questionnaire (GAD-7), the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI), and the Five Facets Mindfulness Questionnaire, all of which have been validated for use in the Polish population. Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA), correlation, and T-tests were employed to test the study hypotheses. Contrary to our hypothesis, sexual problems did not align with the internalizing spectrum of the HiTOP model, which includes depression and anxiety, suggesting a distinct nature for these issues among Polish women. A weak correlation was observed between sexual problems and depression, while no significant relationship was found with anxiety. Furthermore, mindfulness was found to be protective against depression and anxiety, but not against sexual problems, potentially due to cultural factors and the complexity of female sexual dysfunctions. The study discusses its limitations, suggests directions for future research, and outlines practical implications.
dc.abstract.plCelem niniejszego badania była ocena przydatności modelu Hierarchicznej Taksonomii Psychopatologii (HiTOP) do diagnozowania problemów seksualnych u kobiet. Próba obejmowała Polki w wieku od 18 do 61 lat (N = 224). Badanie przeprowadzono w formie ankiety internetowej. Zastosowano następujące kwestionariusze: Kwestionariusz Zdrowia Pacjenta (PHQ-9), Kwestionariusz Lęku Uogólnionego (GAD-7), Indeks Funkcji Seksualnych Kobiety (FSFI) i Pięciowymiarowy Kwestionariusz Uważności, z których wszystkie są przystosowane do stosowania w polskiej populacji. Do przetestowania hipotez badawczych zastosowano analizę czynnikową (CFA), analizę korelacji i testy T. Wbrew postawionej hipotezie, problemy seksualne nie były zgodne ze strukturą spektrum internalizacyjnego modelu HiTOP, obejmującego depresję i lęk, co sugeruje odrębną naturę tych problemów wśród Polek. Zaobserwowano słabą korelację między problemami seksualnymi a depresją, jednak nie stwierdzono istotnego związku z lękiem. Ponadto stwierdzono, że uważność jest związana z niższym poziomem depresji i lęku, ale nie zaobserwowano związków z problemami seksualnymi, potencjalnie z powodu czynników kulturowych i złożoności dysfunkcji seksualnych u kobiet. Omawiane są ograniczenia badania, sugerowane kierunki przyszłych badań i przedstawione praktyczne implikacje.
