dc.abstract.enThe subject of the paper is the earliest Russian translation of Bolesław Leśmianʼs ballad “Dziewczyna”. The discussion focuses on tracing the main divergences between the Polish source text and Yevgeny Vadimovʼs rendition and on contextualizing them. The aspects surveyed include: style, narrative strategy, philosophical (epistemological and ontological) questions posed by the poem, the presented world and worldview. The results of the analysis lead to probing whether the target text is a translation in the strict sense and whether it has been written with such a function in view. The issue of anthologizing and presenting such texts nowadays is brought up.
