A Comparative Analysis of the Translation of Humour, Idiomatic Expressions and Wordplay in the Polish and Russian Dubbed Versions of the American Movie Barbie

dc.abstract.enThis undergraduate thesis examines the translation of humour, idiomatic expressions and wordplay in the Polish and Russian dubbed versions of the American film Barbie. The thesis focuses on the difficulties and methods used to preserve the comic and cultural nuances present in the original film in order to explore the complexity of translation. The theoretical framework highlights the importance of cultural sensitivity and linguistic creativity in the translation process. In the analytical part of the thesis, selected scenes and dialogues are analysed. Particular attention is paid to how translators maintain a balance between fidelity to the source text and the ease with which the target audience can understand the humour. The translation of idioms and wordplay has demonstrated the translators' ingenuity in maintaining the original humour and linguistic creativity. This work provides valuable insights into the art and science of translating humour across languages and cultures, contributing to the field of translation studies. The study highlights the difficulties translators face and their creativity in adapting the unique humour of Barbie for both Polish and Russian-speaking audiences.
dc.abstract.plNiniejsza praca licencjacka bada tłumaczenie humoru, wyrażeń idiomatycznych i gry słów w polskiej i rosyjskiej wersji dubbingowej amerykańskiego filmu Barbie. Praca koncentruje się na trudnościach i metodach wykorzystywanych do zachowania komicznych i kulturowych niuansów obecnych w oryginalnym filmie, aby zbadać złożoność tłumaczenia. Ramy teoretyczne podkreślają, jak ważne są wrażliwość kulturowa i kreatywność językowa w procesie tłumaczenia. W części analitycznej pracy analizowane są wybrane sceny i dialogi. Szczególna uwaga zwrócona jest na to, jak tłumacze utrzymują równowagę między wiernością tekstowi źródłowemu a łatwością zrozumienia humoru przez odbiorców docelowych. Tłumaczenie idiomów i gry słów pokazało pomysłowość tłumaczy w zachowaniu oryginalnego humoru i kreatywności językowej. Ta praca dostarcza wartościowych informacji na temat sztuki i nauki tłumaczenia humoru między językami i kulturami, przyczyniając się do rozwoju dziedziny badań nad tłumaczeniem. Badanie podkreśla trudności, jakie napotykają tłumacze, a także ich kreatywność w adaptacji wyjątkowego humoru Barbie dla zarówno polskojęzycznej, jak i rosyjskojęzycznej publiczności.
