The evolution of the European Union neighborhood policy towards the South Caucasian Countries since 2004

Uproszczony widok
This thesis examines the political relations of the European Union with the states of the South Caucasus: Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan through Neigbourhood policy. The study focuses on the stages and nature of these policies, the methods and forms of cooperation, and their impact on the social, economic, and political situation of these nations. It also discusses agreements and documents which helped these countries to democratize their political systems and share European values. Since 2004-2007, when new Member States joined the EU, the EU found itself facing a maritime border with the South Caucasus and, therefore, realized the need to re-organize its relations with the neighboring countries. The South Caucasus is an energy transit region, and the promotion of economic cooperation can be beneficial to both the EU and the countries of the South Caucasus.
