Preparation stage and quality of simultaneous interpreting with text

dc.abstract.enThe main objective of this MA thesis is to examine whether preparation stage influences quality of simultaneous interpreting with text. This work was prepared based on the experimental study designed and conducted by the author of this thesis. The thesis consists of four chapters. The first three chapters are devoted to the theory regarding the concept of simultaneous interpreting with text, preparation for an assignment requiring simultaneous interpreting with text, and quality assessment of simultaneous interpretation with text and its quality. The last and the most comprehensive chapter presents the structure, all necessary aspects, and the aims of the conducted experimental study. This chapter also contains the results gathered during the experiment and the analysis of them. Based on the available literature, two research hypotheses regarding quality of simultaneous interpreting with text were devised. The first hypothesis stated that the interpretations of both selected texts should be of high quality whereas the second hypothesis stated that the quality of the interpretation of the text prepared in advance by the interpreters should be higher than the quality of the interpretation of the text rendered without prior preparation. Unfortunately, after the analysis of the results, it transpired that neither hypotheses could be conclusively corroborated. However, it was to some extent possible to establish that the quality of the interpreted target text proves to be proportional to the length of preparation time given to the interpreters before an assignment.
dc.abstract.plTematem niniejszej pracy magisterskiej jest zbadanie wpływu czasu danego na przygotowanie tekstu na jakość tłumaczenia symultanicznego z tekstem. Praca napisana została na podstawie zaprojektowanego i przeprowadzonego przez autora badania eksperymentalnego. Składa się ona z czterech rozdziałów. Pierwsze trzy z nich traktują o teorii związanej z samym konceptem tłumaczenia symultanicznego z tekstem i czym ono jest, przygotowaniem do tego typu tłumaczenia oraz jakością tłumaczenia symultanicznego. Ostatni i najobszerniejszy rozdział przedstawia strukturę, wszystkie niezbędne aspekty i założenia przeprowadzonego badania eksperymentalnego. Opisane i zanalizowane są w nim również wyniki, które zebrane zostały w trakcie badania. W ramach badania postawiono na podstawie dostępnej literatury dwie hipotezy badawcze dotyczące jakości tłumaczenie symultanicznego z tekstem. Pierwsza hipoteza zakładała, że tłumaczenia obu wybranych tekstów powinny cechować się wysoką jakością, natomiast druga, że jakość tłumaczenia tekstu przygotowanego przez tłumaczy z wyprzedzeniem powinna być lepsza, niż jakość tłumaczenia tekstu wykonywanego bez wcześniejszego przygotowania. Analiza materiału zebranego w trakcie badania wykazała, że nie można jednoznacznie potwierdzić żadnej z hipotez. Do pewnego stopnia udało się jednak ustalić, że jakość tłumaczonego tekstu docelowego pozostaje proporcjonalna do długości wyprzedzenia, z jakim tekst udostępniony zostaje tłumaczom do wcześniejszego przygotowania.
