Denaturalizacja kategorii macierzyństwa w filozofii feministycznej
| dc.abstract.en | Motherhood as a philosophical category has not been the subject of research so far. This work aims is a critical analysis (genealogy) of the naturalization motherhood in classical Western philosophy from the perspective of feminist philosophy, as well as justification of the postulate of denaturalization of motherhood in selected works of feminist philosophers: Simone de Beauvoir, Shulamith Firestone, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Sara Ruddick, Patrici Hill Collins, bell hooks, Shelley Park. Most of the analyzed texts were not translated into Polish, and the existing research did not focus on the issue of motherhood. Therefore, this work aspires to fill a significant research gap in contemporary philosophy and motherhood studies, which is part of gender studies (both in the USA and in Poland). In the work, I see motherhood as a philosophical and social category that is culturally changeable, historical, diverse and potentially subversive. Influenced by the philosophy of Foucault and Judith Butler, I distinguish reproductive discourses from mothering or motherhood discourses. I develop the theory that in the hegemonic reproductive discourses of Plato, Aristotle, the Church Fathers, Bodin, Robert Filmer and Rousseau, motherhood was treated as a biological and natural fact. I analyze the social and political implications of the naturalization of motherhood. I propose to dismantle and destabilize the traditional model in the form of an analysis of counternarratives, present in the texts of feminist philosophers and maternity theorists. I refer to Beauvoir's concept of heterogeneity and "ambiguity of motherhood", Rich's institution and experience of motherhood, Perkins Gilman's socialization of motherhood, Firestone's utopian manifesto, Hill Collins "othermothered” and motherwork”revolutionary motherhood’ hooks, Ruddick's embodied motherhood, or Park's queering motherhood . The aim of the work is therefore an attempt to justify that the denaturalization of the category of mother, the concept of embodied mothering practices and queer motherhood outside the heteropatriarchal norm is an example of inclusive theory and practice with transformative political and social implications. |

Celem mojej pracy jest krytyczna analiza naturalizacji macierzyństwa w klasycznej filozofii Zachodu z perspektywy filozofii feministycznej, a także uzasadnienie postulatu denaturalizacji macierzyństwa w wybranych pracach filozofek feministycznych, m. in. Simone de Beauvoir, Shulamith Firestone, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Sary Ruddick, Patrici Hill Collins, bell hooks, Shelley M. Park. W pracy ujmuję macierzyństwo jako kategorię filozoficzną i społeczną, która ma charakter kulturowo zmienny, historyczny, heterogeniczny i potencjalnie wywrotowy. Szczegółowo analizuję społeczne i polityczne implikacje naturalizacji macierzyństwa w hegemonicznych dyskursach Platona, Arystotelesa, Ojców Kościoła, Bodina, Filmera czy Rousseau, w których „macierzyństwo” było ujmowane jako fakt biologiczny i „naturalny”, należący do sfery zwierzęcej, poza kontrolą i świadomością. Proponuję demontaż i destabilizację tradycyjnego modelu opieki i rodziny w kontekście sprawiedliwości reprodukcyjnej. Przywołuję kontrnarracje filozofek feministycznych i teoretyczek macierzyństwa. Praca służy także, mam nadzieję, odrzuceniu popularnego w Polsce przekonania, że filozofki i teoretyczki feministyczne ignorowały problem macierzyństwa i warunki życia matek. |
