A comparative analysis of cultural references in English and Russian subtitles on the example of Netflix's Znachor

dc.abstract.enThe main aim of the thesis is to analyse English and Russian subtitles in the film “Znachor”, concerning on the translation of multilingualism and forms of address. Chapter 1 presents translation methods for cultural elements. The main functions of multilingualism were presented and terms connected with it were covered. Moreover, the problems concerning the translation of forms of address were examined and analysed in terms of English, Russian, and Polish. In Chapter 2, various examples of English and Russian translations of multilingual elements from the film “Znachor” are commented on. The results illustrate that English and Russian translations are faithful to the original and consistent with Netflix’s guidelines. In Chapter 3 the focus was put on analysing Polish forms of address from the film “Znachor” translation into English and Russian. It appears that Russian and English translations are often closer to each other than to the Polish original. They are also consistent with Netflix’s guidelines.
dc.abstract.plCelem pracy jest analiza przekładu elementów kulturowych, jakimi są wielojęzyczność oraz formy adresatywne w angielskich i rosyjskich napisach do filmu „Znachor”. W pierwszym rozdziale przedstawione zostały metody tłumaczeniowe, które mogą być zastosowane przy tłumaczeniu elementów kulturowych. Zostały również opisane główne funkcje wielojęzyczności w filmach oraz wyjaśnione terminy z nią związane. Dodatkowo, przyjrzano się problemom tłumaczeniowym, które pojawiają się przy tłumaczeniu form adresatywnych i przeanalizowano je pod kątem języka angielskiego, rosyjskiego i polskiego. W drugim rozdziale autorka omawia przykłady tłumaczeń elementów wielojęzycznych pochodzących z filmu „Znachor” na angielski i rosyjski. Okazuje się, że oba tłumaczenia są wierne oryginałowi i zgodne z rekomendacjami Netfliksa. W rozdziale trzecim znajduje się analiza tłumaczenia polskich form adresatywnych na angielski i rosyjski, z której można wywnioskować, że tłumaczenia na dane języki są sobie bliższe pod względem wykorzystanych technik tłumaczeniowych, niż polskiemu oryginałowi. Podobnie, jak w przypadku wielojęzyczności, tłumaczenia form adresatywnych są zgodne z wytycznymi Netfliksa.
