Metaphorical conceptualizations of the concept LOVE FOR ONE'S HOMELAND in the poetry of the Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish. A cognitive linguistic analysis of selected examples

dc.abstract.enThe traditional view of metaphor presents metaphor as a decorative figure of speech. There are certain arguments against such an approach, e.g. the systematic nature of metaphors. The conceptual metaphor theory states that metaphors are not only decorative figures of speech, but primarily cognitive mechanisms that shape our understanding of the abstract domain in terms of the more tangible concrete domain through metaphorical mappings. Thus, this theory offers a framework that helps understand how metaphors influence cognitive processes such as thinking, language, and conceptualization in various domains.
dc.abstract.plTradycyjne spojrzenie na metaforę przedstawia metaforę jako dekoracyjną figurę mowy. Przeciw takiemu sojrzeniu przmawiają pewne argumenty wskazujące np. na systemtyczność metafor. Teoria metafor pojęciowych twierdzi metafory to nie tylko dekoracyjne figury mowy, ale przede wszystkim to machanizmy poznawcze, które kształtują nasze rozumienie domeny abstrakcyjnej w kategoriach bardziej namacalnej domeny konkretnej poprzez metaforyczne odwzorowania. Zatem teoria ta oferuje ramy, które pomagają zrozumieć, w jaki sposób metafory wpływają na procesy poznaecze, takie jak myślenie, język i konceptualizacja w różnych dziedzinach. Niniejsza praca jest kognitywną analizą wybranych przykładów poetyckich. Celem jest ukazanie, w jaki sposób poeci posługują się wyrażeniami metaforyczymi oraz z jaki sposób teoria metafor pojęciowych potwierdza znaczenie teorii lingwistyki kognitywnej w rozumieniu funkcjonowania języka metaforycznego w poezji.
