Different Strategies of Translating Wordplay in T. Pratchett's Soul Music

dc.abstract.enThis thesis discusses the issue of different strategies of wordplay translation implemented by the Polish translator of Terry Pratchett's Soul Music. The conducted analysis bases on the strategies introduced by Andrejs Veisbergs and Malcolm Offord and focuses on demonstrating strategies that are most prominently represented in the translation. It mentions the problematic nature of wordplay and the issue of untranslatability. The analysis includes examining the examples of wordplay, the way of formulating the wordplay by the author, the strategy implemented by the translator as well as the possible reasoning behind it as well as evaluation of the final effect of the wordplay translation instances.
dc.abstract.plPraca dotyczy tematyki strategii tłumaczenia gry słownej stosowanych przez polskiego tłumacza książki Soul Music autorstwa Terry'ego Partchetta. Przeprowadzona w niej analiza bazuje na strategiach przedstawionych przez Andrejsa Veisbergsa oraz Malcolma Offorda i skupia się na zaprezentowaniu tych strategii, które są najlepiej ukazane w tłumaczeniu. Porusza ona również temat problematycznego charakteru gry słownej oraz nieprzetłumaczalności. Analiza uwzględnia interpretację przykładów gry słownej, sposobu jej formułowania przez autora, rodzaju strategii zastosowanej przez tłumacza wraz z potencjalnym uzasadnieniem jej zastosowania oraz prezentuje ocenę finalnego efektu tłumaczenia przypadków gry słownej.
