Rola pokazów etnograficznych na przykładzie występów Syngalezów w Warszawie w latach 1888-1889.

dc.abstract.enThe paper discusses the ethnographic shows of the Sinhalese in Warsaw in 1888–1889, based on the Polish press of the period and the literature on the subject. It talks about both the characteristics of the group and its performances, as well as the issues related to the performances of the Sinhalese and the phenomenon of ethnographic shows itself. It briefly introduces the history of ethnography and the myth of the noble savage in relation to the Syngalese shows. Individual events are discussed in more detail, specifically the wedding of two Sinhalese at the Warsaw Zoo and the interest of Warsaw women in Sinhalese men.
dc.abstract.plPraca omawia pokazy etnograficzne Syngalezów w Warszawie w latach 1888-1889 na podstawie prasy polskiej z tego okresu oraz literatury przedmiotu. Opowiada zarówno o charakterystyce grupy i jej występów, jak i problematyce związanej z przedstawieniami Syngalezów oraz samym zjawiskiem pokazów etnograficznych. Przedstawia pokrótce historię etnografii oraz mit „szlachetnego dzikusa” w odniesieniu do pokazów Syngalezów. Poszczególne wydarzenia są omówione bardziej szczegółowo, konkretnie ślub dwójki Syngalezów w warszawskim ogrodzie zoologicznym oraz zainteresowanie warszawianek syngaleskimi mężczyznami.
