| dc.abstract.en | In this work I examine a certain kind of experience which I call the experience of finitude. In the introduction I make an attempt to illustrate the intuition that this experience takes the form of a meta-experience, or the phenomenon of phenomena. In the first chapter I examine the possibility of understanding this form of experience as having a non-conceptual character. The consequence of this view is that access to this experience can only be understood as given to us in an intuition, rather than being constituted by an explicit judgement. I further suggest that the experience of finitude understood in this way structures our understanding of our presence in the world as a human presence. In the second chapter I look at how this experience is exemplified in our experience of the prospect of individual death, and through the closing down of possibilities, which we experience in the death of the other. I argue that these experiences are constitutive of the meaning we discover and create in our life. In the final chapter I consider the question of the relationship of meaning to this experience at the concrete level of human culture, comparing the ways in which it has been understood and represented in, Christianity and Tragedy respectively. My conclusion is that these representations capture irreducible and contrasting aspects of this experience giving evidence of its intrinsically ambiguous character. However I conclude that it is necessary for an adequate grasp of the meaning of human presence in the world for each of the views represented by Christianity, and Tragedy to remain open to one another. |
| dc.abstract.pl | W niniejszej pracy zajmuję się specyficznym rodzajem doświadczenia, które określam jako doświadczenie skończoności. We wprowadzeniu uzasadniam intuicję, zgodnie z którą doświadczenie to przybiera formę metadoświadczenia. W pierwszym rozdziale zajmuję się możliwością zrozumienia tej formy doświadczenia jako posiadającej niekonceptualny charakter. Konsekwencją takiego punktu widzenia jest, iż dostęp do tego rodzaju doświadczenia może być zrozumiały jedynie w formie danych dostępnych poprzez intuicję. Sugeruję ponadto, że tak rozumiane doświadczenie skończoności nadaje strukturę rozumieniu naszej obecności w świecie jako obecności specyficznie ludzkiej. W drugim rozdziale rozważam, jak owo doświadczenie przejawia się w perspektywie indywidualnej śmierci, jak również w zamykaniu się horyzontu możliwości, którego doświadczamy poprzez śmierć innych. Staram się udowodnić, że te wymiary doświadczenia są zasadnicze dla znaczenia, które odkrywamy i tworzymy w naszym życiu. W ostatnim rozdziale zajmuję się pytaniem o relację między owym znaczeniem a doświadczeniem skończoności w odniesieniu do konkretnych aspektów kultury, porównując sposoby, w jakie było ono zarówno rozumiane, jak i reprezentowane w chrześcijańskim i tragicznym obrazie świata. Pokazuję, że te reprezentacje ujmują nieredukowalne i kontrastujące ze sobą aspekty tego doświadczenia, ukazując jego złożony i wieloznaczny charakter. Uznaję jednak, że, aby adekwatnie uchwycić znaczenie ludzkiej obecności w świecie dla paradygmatów reprezentowanych przez chrześcijańską i tragiczną wizję świata, muszą one pozostać otwarte na siebie nawzajem oraz na prezentowane przez siebie sposoby ujmowania doświadczenia skończoności. |
