Żeńskie szkoły handlowe w Królestwie Polskim. Przypadek szkół Anieli Wereckiej w Warszawie i Jadwigi Barszczewskiej w Siedlcach

dc.abstract.enThis study aims to present how the female trade schools in the Congress Kingdom of Poland operated at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. They are discussed in the example of two institutions best captured in the source material, Aniela Werecka's school in Warsaw and Jadwiga Barszczewska's school in Siedlce. Documentary sources from this period are almost unavailable in Poland, so the study is based primarily on diary and memoir sources. The only surviving documents are school reports from the Werecka’s institute (others may exist in the archives of St Petersburg and Moscow, nowadays, inaccessible to Polish researchers). This data was supplemented by information from the pedagogical press and the local Siedlce press. So far, no studies have been written directly on female trade schools. Merely mentions of the subject have appeared in some works devoted to private or trade schooling. The first part of the work is devoted to the schools' organisation and operating conditions. It discusses the financial policy of the schools, their social composition, the organisation and hygiene of teaching and attempts to influence them from outside. The second part deals with the curriculum. It contains information about the subjects taught, the teachers working in the schools and the students' opinions about them. It also discusses the educational objectives of the two schools, in particular the attitude towards higher education and the professional profile of the branch schools. The third part is devoted to interpersonal relations in the schools and the educational methods applied there, i.e. the attitude towards body and physiology, as well as young ladies' exercise. The question of whether schoolgirls were brought up in the spirit of patriotism, social sensitivity and independent thinking was also reflected. The most important conclusion of the work is that the schoolgirls were brought up to be progressive and well-educated women with high intellectual aspirations. The application of this kind of teaching and educational model was possible due to the independence of the trade school institutions from the Russian Ministry of Education, as they were subordinate to the Ministry of Finance. The school management was thus able, for example, to expand the curriculum of natural sciences or to employ teachers disapproved of by the Russian authorities
dc.abstract.plCelem niniejszej pracy jest przedstawienie działalności żeńskich szkół handlowych w Królestwie Polskim na przełomie XIX i XX wieku. Zostały one omówione na przykładzie dwóch placówek, najlepiej uchwytnych w materiale źródłowym – szkoły Anieli Wereckiej w Warszawie i szkoły Jadwigi Barszczewskiej w Siedlcach. Źródła będące dokumentami z epoki są w Polsce niemal niedostępne, dlatego praca oparta jest przede wszystkim na źródłach o charakterze pamiętnikarskim i wspomnieniowym. Jedyne zachowane dokumenty to sprawozdania szkolne z placówki Wereckiej (inne być może istnieją w niedostępnych dziś polskim badaczom archiwach Petersburga i Moskwy). Zdobyte w ten sposób dane zostały uzupełnione informacjami z prasy pedagogicznej oraz lokalnej prasy siedleckiej. Dotąd nie powstały żadne opracowania zajmujące się bezpośrednio żeńskimi szkołami handlowymi. Temat był jedynie wzmiankowany w pracach na temat szkolnictwa handlowego lub szkolnictwa prywatnego. Pierwsza część pracy poświęcona jest organizacji szkół oraz warunkom ich funkcjonowania. Omawiane są w niej: polityka finansowa szkół, ich skład społeczny, organizacja i higiena nauczania oraz próby wywierania na nie zewnętrznych wpływów. Druga część dotyczy programu nauczania. Znajdują się w niej informacje o wykładanych przedmiotach, pracujących w szkołach nauczycielach i opinie uczennic o nich. Omawiane są tam również cele edukacyjne obu szkół, przede wszystkim stosunek do studiów wyższych oraz do zawodowego profilu szkół handlowych. Część trzecia poświęcona jest relacjom międzyludzkim w szkołach i stosowanym przez nie metodom wychowawczym, a więc stosunek do ciała i fizjologii, a także do ruchu młodych panienek. Refleksji poddana została też kwestia, czy uczennice wychowywano w duchu patriotyzmu, wrażliwości społecznej i samodzielnego myślenia. Najważniejszym wnioskiem płynącym z pracy jest to, że uczennice wychowywano na kobiety postępowe i dobrze wykształcone, z wysokimi aspiracjami intelektualnymi. Stosowanie takiego modelu dydaktyczno-wychowawczego umożliwiała niezależność szkolnych placówek handlowych od rosyjskiego Ministerstwa Oświaty, podległy one bowiem Ministerstwu Finansów. Kierownictwo szkół mogło więc np. rozszerzać program przedmiotów przyrodniczych lub zatrudniać nauczycieli źle widzianych przez rosyjskie władze.
