Rewriting Harry Potter: Fan Fiction as a Critique of the Original Work

dc.abstract.enThe study focuses on fan fiction based on the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling, with the main subject being issues related to the lack of representation in terms of sexual and racial identity in the author's works. The paper includes reasons that explain why representation is a significant matter, particularly in stories intended for younger readers. The dissertation also describes the role of fan fiction in rectifying those aspects of Rowling's work that readers have identified as requiring improvement. Fan creations are presented as a way to introduce LGBTQ characters and ethnic diversity into the world crafted by Rowling. The study also addresses the significant role of the Marauders' fandom, which affords fans the greatest creative freedom in every respect, considering the scant amount of information provided by the author about this era. Fan fiction allows audiences to express their dissatisfaction with the original author's work—in this case, Rowling's—reveal alternative possible interpretations of the work, supplement information that fans feel is lacking, and expand the existing world in a way that accommodates everyone.
dc.abstract.plPraca skupia się na literaturze fanowskiej pisanej na podstawie serii o Harrym Potterze autorstwa J.K Rowling. Głównym tematem są problemy związane z brakiem reprezentacji na tle tożsamości seksualnej oraz rasowej w książkach pisarki. W pracy zawarte są przyczyny, które wyjaśniają, dlaczego reprezentacja jest rzeczą istotną, szczególnie w historiach przeznaczonych dla najmłodszych czytelników. Dysertacja opisuje również rolę literatury fanowskiej w korygowaniu tych aspektów pracy Rowling, które czytelnicy uznali za potrzebujące poprawy. Twórczość fanów przedstawiona jest jako sposób na wprowadzenie postaci LGBTQ oraz różnorodności na tle etnicznym w realia świata stworzonego przez Rowling. Poruszona jest również kwestia ogromnej roli fandomu Huncwotów, który pozwala fanom na największą wolność twórczą w każdym zakresie, biorąc pod uwagę śladową ilość informacji zawartych przez autorkę na temat tej ery. Literatura fanowska pozwala odbiorcom wyrazić niezadowolenie z twórczości autorów, w tym wypadku Rowling, ujawnić inne możliwe interpretacje dzieła, uzupełnić informacje, których zdaniem fanów zabrakło i rozbudować istniejący świat tak, by było w nim miejsce dla każdego.
