dc.abstract.en | This chapter tries to explore the education system of the Achaemenid Empire. Little is known about the school system, and education in general, so traces and pieces of information must have been extracted from the few available sources. The education system is described on the bases of oral and written transmission. The different languages spoken in the Achaemenid Empire favored the domination of Aramaic in administration. Aramaic also might be seen as the language of the intellectual elites, which served as the vehicle of wisdom transmission. |
