„Ten algorytm można bardzo łatwo przechytrzyć” Różnice klasowe w postrzeganiu i użytkowaniu Spotify

dc.abstract.enThis thesis examines the relationship between the social background of users of the streaming platform Spotify and how they perceive and use it. Referring to Pierre Bourdieu's concept, the author poses questions of whether class can in fact differentiate ways of seeing and using the app. To answer it, author conducted individual in-depth interviews preceded by an analysis of the diaries completed by the respondents. The findings indicate that dispositions and social background may explain the narratives towards recommendation systems. While middle-class users are warmly attuned to algorithms and perceive the advantages and useful features of such a system, the upper class feels a greater need to set boundaries and assert its independence. This paper therefore highlights the cultural and social aspects valued by the upper and middle classes through which they view the Spotify app. The paper is structured around a literature review, which provides the theoretical background to the topic under discussion, as well as background information on the development of the technologies that gave rise to the music platform. The author then presents the methodology, results and their interpretations. The paper concludes with a summary, including an acknowledgement of the limitations of presented analysis and a proposal for further development of the topic undertaken.
dc.abstract.plNiniejsza praca podejmuje problem relacji między pochodzeniem społecznym użytkowników platformy streamingowej Spotify a tym jak ją postrzegają i jak z niej korzystają. Odwołując się do koncepcji Pierre’a Bourdieu autorka stawia pytanie czy klasa faktycznie może różnicować sposoby widzenia i użytkowania aplikacji. By na nie odpowiedzieć przeprowadziła indywidualne wywiady pogłębione poprzedzone analizą wypełnianych przez respondentów dzienniczków. Wyniki badań wskazują, że dyspozycje i pochodzenie społeczne mogą tłumaczyć narracje konkretnych jednostek wobec systemów rekomendowania treści. Użytkownicy z klasy średniej odnoszą się bowiem do algorytmów w ciepłych słowach, dostrzegając zalety i przydatne cechy takiego systemu, natomiast klasa wyższa odczuwa większą potrzebę stawiania granic i podkreślania swojej niezależności. Niniejsza praca unaocznia zatem kulturowe i społeczne aspekty cenione przez przedstawicieli klasy wyższej i średniej, przez pryzmat których postrzegają aplikację Spotify. Struktura pracy obejmuje przegląd literatury, który dostarcza teoretycznego tła dla omawianej tematyki oraz podstawowe informacje o rozwoju technologii, dzięki którym powstała muzyczna platforma. Następnie autorka przedstawia metodologię badania, wyniki oraz ich interpretacje. Pracę zamyka podsumowanie wraz ze wskazaniem ograniczeń niniejszej analizy oraz propozycją dalszego rozwoju podjętej tematyki.
