The Representation of Women in the TV Series 'Gilmore Girls' and it's Polish Version

dc.abstract.enThe research paper explores the representation of women in the TV series Gilmore Girls and its Polish version. Using feminist theories, such as gender performativity and symbolic annihilation, it examines the portrayal of main characters like Lorelai, Rory, and Emily Gilmore, emphasising their accuracy with feminist values. The study also analyses how translation choices, including the series title and dialogue, impact the representation of women. The research finds that while the original series highlights complex, independent female characters, the Polish adaptation occasionally changes their feminist portrayal through cultural and linguistic shifts. This demonstrates the significant role translation plays in shaping gender narratives in mass media.
dc.abstract.plPraca skupia się na reprezentacji kobiet w serialu telewizyjnym „Gilmore Girls” oraz jego polskiej wersji. Wykorzystując teorie feministyczne, takie jak performatywność płci i symbolic annihilation, omawia przedstawienie głównych postaci, takich jak Lorelai, Rory i Emily Gilmore, podkreślając ich zgodność z wartościami feministycznymi. Praca bada również, w jaki sposób wybory tłumaczeniowe, w tym tytuł i dialogi, wpływają na sposób przedstawiania kobiet. Analiza wykazała, że choć oryginalny serial akcentuje złożone, niezależne kobiece postacie, polska adaptacja czasami zmienia ich feministyczny wizerunek poprzez kulturowe i językowe zmiany. Badanie pokazuje znaczącą rolę tłumaczenia w kształtowaniu narracji o płci w mediach.
