Techniques of Translating Comedic Elements in Selected Episodes of the Film Series Rick and Morty

dc.abstract.enThis essay explores translation techniques used in translating comedic elements in the Polish dubbing of the sixth and seventh seasons of Rick and Morty. The analysis of these techniques is based on Fuentes Luque’s (1998, 2000) classification of techniques for the translation of humor with the addition of Newmark’s (1988) general translation methods. The translation techniques employed in the dubbing of the sitcom are substitution, addition or compensation, omission, literal translation, and equivalence. These techniques are to convey humor effectively, and their use is presented through examples from the series. Their analysis highlights cases in which they were used successfully and when their use was not beneficial to preserving the comedic essence of the original. It also demonstrates how the dubbing of the show was adapted to fit the cultural and linguistic contexts of the target audience. This essay shows that it is crucial to apply multiple translation techniques for the dubbing of comedy to be successful.
dc.abstract.plW niniejszym eseju omówiono techniki tłumaczeniowe stosowane w tłumaczeniu elementów komediowych w polskim dubbingu szóstego i siódmego sezonu „Rick’a i Morty’ego”. Analiza tych technik opiera się na klasyfikacji Fuentes Luque (1998, 2000), który wskazał konkretne techniki tłumaczenia humoru w tłumaczeniu audiowizualnym oraz ogólnych metodach tłumaczeniowych Newmark’a (1988). Techniki tłumaczeniowe użyte w dubbingu tego sitcomu to substytucja, dodanie lub kompensacja, pominięcie, tłumaczenie dosłowne oraz ekwiwalencja. Techniki te mają skutecznie przekazywać humor, a ich zastosowanie przedstawiono na przykładach z serialu. Ich analiza przedstawia przypadki, gdy zostały zastosowane skutecznie oraz gdy ich użycie nie było korzystne dla zachowania humorystycznego sedna oryginalnej wypowiedzi. Pokazuje ona także jak dubbing tego serialu został dostosowany do kontekstu kulturowego i językowego docelowej publiczności. W tym eseju przedstawiono, że istotą skutecznego dubbingu komedii jest zastosowanie wielu technik tłumaczeniowych.
