International Famine Relief: The Case of Yemen

dc.abstract.enInternational famine relief operations have been going on in Yemen since 2016 till now because the nation has been dealing with one of the greatest humanitarian disasters in history. Millions of people in Yemen are now facing extreme poverty, starvation, and sickness as a result of the situation, which has been fueled by a combination of civil war ravaging the country since the 2014 economic downfall, and natural disasters. International agencies and governments have given Yemen significant support in response to the crisis, including food aid, medical supplies, and other types of humanitarian assistance. However, despite that relief effort, Yemen’s dreadful condition continues, and millions of people are still in dire need. Under those circumstances, the research question presents itself on the adequacy of the existing international famine relief. The thesis will show how the international system of famine relief consisting of international Intergovernmental Organizations, NGOs, and charities has been coping with famine in the case of Yemen since the outbreak of civil war in 2014. There are several factors that could hinder famine relief operations in Yemen from being adequate, such as the fighting third country involvement, lack of effective government authority economic instability, climate change, inadequate funding, and restrictions on aid. As well as faulty administration of aid by the famine relief system. thesis will analyze how those internal and external factors impact the effectiveness of international famine relief efforts in Yemen.
