The study examines the history of the Chinese Eastern Railway, which was established under a Russo-Chinese agreement concluded after the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895, as well as the life and activities of the Polish colony in Harbin between 1898 and 1949. The construction of the Chinese Eastern Railway formed part of the broader strategy of expansion pursued by the Russian Empire in the Far East, a region that gained key strategic and economic importance at the end of the nineteenth century. The study demonstrates that the influx of specialists and workers from the Russian Empire, including a significant number of Poles, contributed to the development of the Far Eastern region at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The author pays particular attention to the social, religious, and cultural life of the Polish community. The activities of Catholic parishes, social organizations, associations, schools, and the press are discussed, highlighting their role in preserving national identity and the contribution of Poles to the development of the Far East.
