Digital flashcards in teaching English vocabulary in a lower-primary classroom

Praca dyplomowa dotyczy rozwijania zasobu leksykalnego u dzieci na etapie wczesnoszkolnym poprzez wykorzystanie cyfrowych fiszek. Jej głównym celem jest ukazanie, w jaki sposób tego rodzaju narzędzie może wspierać przyswajanie słownictwa w sposób angażujący, dostosowany do wieku oraz efektywny dla uczniów klas I–III szkoły podstawowej. Rozdział pierwszy prezentuje teoretyczne podstawy nauki słownictwa, omawia kluczowe cechy młodych uczniów, różnice między słownictwem biernym a czynnym oraz wybrane strategie nauczania leksyki w początkowej fazie edukacji językowej. Rozdział przedstawia również rolę fiszek, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem narzędzi cyfrowych, jako istotnego wsparcia w procesie uczenia się. Rozdział drugi zawiera opis autorskiego Teacher’s Resource Pack, obejmującego zarówno materiały do druku, jak i interaktywne zasoby cyfrowe dostosowane do potrzeb dzieci z klas I–III, a także przedstawia cele dydaktyczne materiałów oraz propozycje ich wykorzystania w pracy z uczniami w młodszym wieku szkolnym.

The thesis deals with the development of English vocabulary in young learners at the lower-primary level through the use of digital flashcards. The central aim of this thesis is to demonstrate how digital flashcards can support vocabulary acquisition in an engaging, age-appropriate, and effective way for children in grades 1 to 3 of primary school. Chapter 1 presents the theoretical background of vocabulary learning. It starts with a look at the main characteristics of young learners, then moves on to explain the difference between passive and active vocabulary and some useful strategies for teaching vocabulary in early language education. The chapter also describes how flashcards, especially digital ones can be a helpful tool to support learning. Chapter 2 presents a Teacher’s Resource Pack designed by the author. It includes both printable and interactive digital materials tailored to the needs of children in grades 1, 2, and 3. The chapter explains the structure of the Teacher’s Resource Pack, its educational goals, and practical application in classroom settings.
