Azerbaijani-Polish relations in 1992-2023

dc.abstract.en	Following Azerbaijan's independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, diplomatic, economic, and cultural contacts were established and gradually strengthened, making the years 1992–2021 a pivotal time in Azerbaijan-Poland relations. These years saw the two nations collaborate on various platforms, fostering mutual understanding and support in international forums. Significant agreements in trade and energy sectors further solidified their partnerships, paving the way for future cooperation. This thesis looks at how Azerbaijan and Poland's bilateral ties have changed over the past thirty years, emphasizing significant turning points, areas of collaboration, and difficulties. First, the foundation for mutual interaction was laid in 1992 with the establishment of diplomatic relations. Both countries concentrated on creating political and economic foundations for collaboration during the 1990s, with Poland defending Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereignty, especially in light of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. As Poland looked to diversify its energy supplies and Azerbaijan became a major participant in the Caspian energy industry, economic ties expanded in the 2000s, especially in the areas of energy, trade, and investment. This growing partnership was further solidified through various agreements aimed at enhancing bilateral trade and fostering investment opportunities. As both nations recognized the potential benefits of collaboration, they sought to strengthen their ties through cultural exchanges and joint initiatives that promoted mutual understanding and cooperation. Notwithstanding these encouraging advancements, problems remained, including varying geopolitical philosophies and sporadic disagreements on global matters. However, by 2021, Poland and Azerbaijan had established a complex partnership based on respect and common interests. This study comes to the conclusion that the years 1992–2021 were a turning point in Azerbaijan-Poland ties, laying the groundwork for future collaboration in a globalized world.
