Nieliniowe systemy notacji logicznej w kontekście edukacji Głuchych posługujących się językiem migowym

dc.abstract.en	The typical approach to representing formal logic is using linear notation. It is not, however, the only way—for example, in the 19th century, Charles Sanders Peirce invented a system of existential graphs. This alternative notation method seems especially interesting in the context of education of Deaf people, who use sign languages to communicate. Sign language is visual and spatial in nature, and is therefore structurally more akin to Peirce’s existential graphs. Due to this similarity, it seems worth considering whether Deaf people who use sign langauge could prefer non-linear notation when faced with the task of processing formal logic. In order to test the integrity of this hypothesis, a pilot study has been devised: groups of Deaf and hearing students were subjected to lessons in formal logic, either using the linear or the non-linear notation. After each lesson, tests were handed out to the students and—additionally—structured qualitative interviews were conducted. The analysis of obtained results proved in favour of the hypothesis, as it does indeed seem that using Peirce’s existential graphs can constitute a more effective approach in teaching formal logic to Deaf students who use sign language. A number of factors could be responsible for this initial finding—these include potential differences in processing of information between the Deaf and the hearing, or some inherent characteristic of sign language, which may be better suited to describing non-linear notations. The findings from the pilot study may serve as a basis for future research on the topic.
dc.abstract.pl	Różne systemy logiki formalnej prezentować się zwykło w notacji liniowej. Nie jest to jednak jedyna możliwość — np. Charles Sanders Peirce w XIX w. opracował system grafów egzystencjalnych. Ciekawie przedstawia się to w kontekście edukacji osób g/Głuchych, które posługują się językiem migowym. Język migowy jest językiem wizualno-przestrzennym, więc strukturalnie jest bardziej zbliżony do grafów egzystencjalnych. Ze względu na tę cechę języków migowych rozważyć, czy osoby g/Głuche posługujące się językiem migowym mogą preferować metody oparte na notacji nieliniowej przy przetwarzaniu zdań logicznych. Aby sprawdzić podstawy tej hipotezy, przeprowadzono badanie pilotażowe — z grupami głuchych i słyszących uczestników przeprowadzono lekcje używając w jednym warunku systemu liniowego, a w drugim systemu nieliniowego. Po przeprowadzonych lekcjach wykonano testy oraz przeprowadzono ustrukturyzowane wywiady jakościowe. Analiza uzyskanych wyników dostarczyła wstępnych przesłanek wskazujących, że nauczanie logiki formalnej z wykorzystaniem grafów egzystencjalnych Peirce’a rzeczywiście może być skuteczniejszą metodą dydaktyczną w nauczaniu g/Głuchych posługujących się językiem migowym. Może to być spowodowane różnicami w sposobie przetwarzania informacji przez osoby głuche lub charakterystyką języka migowego, który może być lepiej przystosowany do opisu systemów nieliniowych nad liniowymi. Przeprowadzone badanie pilotażowe dostarczyło obserwacji, które mogą stanowić podstawę do projektowania i realizacji kolejnych badań nad analizowanym zagadnieniem.
