Artystka wielu ojczyzn – wielokulturowość i problematyka tożsamości narodowej w twórczości Elisabeth Jerichau-Baumann.

dc.abstract.en	This thesis analyses the phenomenon of multiculturalism and the complex national identity of Elisabeth Jerichau-Baumann in the context of her artistic work. The dissertation consists of three parts – the first chapter is devoted to events in the painter’s life and her autobiographical writings, which shaped her artistic strategy, as well as her sense of national belonging and her social and professional status. Then, selected paintings by Jerichau-Baumann are discussed in order to examine the visual manifestation of her national and social identity. The third chapter also explores the artist’s interest in Oriental culture and her geographical mobility, factors which influenced her painting technique. The study employs a variety of art-historical research methods, such as formal and biographical analysis, the psychology of creativity, and feminist and postcolonial perspectives. Additionally, the study applied artistic geography, a spatial turn, and an examination of the mechanisms governing the artist’s operation within the international art market (i.e. her artistic strategy). The conclusion focuses on possible directions for further research into Jerichau-Baumann’s work. Research questions include an analysis of how the artist’s multicultural background shaped her artistic strategy; the methods she employed to visually express her national identity; and the impact of her travels to the East on her visual language. The aim of this study is to reinterpret Jerichau-Baumann’s body of work – which has been unjustly omitted from Polish academic discourse, yet is the result of a process of conscious creation of her own national identity, including the Polish one.
dc.abstract.pl	Niniejsza praca dyplomowa stanowi analizę zjawiska wielokulturowości oraz zagadnienia złożonej tożsamości narodowej Elisabeth Jerichau-Baumann w kontekście jej twórczości artystycznej. Dysertacja składa się z trzech części – rozdział pierwszy został poświęcony wydarzeniom z biografii malarki oraz jej publikacjom o charakterze autobiograficznym, które zdeterminowały obraną przez nią strategię artystyczną, a także poczucie przynależności narodowej oraz status społeczno-zawodowy. Następnie omówiono wybrane dzieła malarskie Jerichau-Baumann w celu zbadania sposobu wizualnej manifestacji jej tożsamości narodowej i społecznej. W rozdziale trzecim rozważono ponadto kwestię zainteresowania artystki kulturą orientalną oraz mobilnością geograficzną, czynnikami oddziałującymi na jej warsztat malarski. W pracy posłużono się różnorodnymi metodami badawczymi historii sztuki, takimi jak analiza formalna, biograficzna, psychologia twórczości, perspektywa feministyczna i postkolonialna. Oprócz tego wykorzystano geografię artystyczną, zwrot przestrzenny, jak również badanie mechanizmów funkcjonowania malarki na międzynarodowym rynku sztuki (tj. strategii artystycznej). W podsumowaniu zaakcentowano możliwe kierunki dla dalszych badań nad twórczością Jerichau-Baumann. Zagadnienia badawcze obejmują analizę sposobu, w jaki wielokulturowość twórczyni zdeterminowała jej strategię artystyczną; metod wizualnej manifestacji tożsamości narodowej malarki; wpływu doświadczenia podróży orientalnych na jej język wizualny. Celem pracy jest reinterpretacja dorobku Jerichau-Baumann – niesłusznie pomijanego w polskim dyskursie naukowym, a będącego wynikiem procesu świadomego kreowania własnej tożsamości narodowej – także polskiej.
